Every weekday morning, 48,000 architects, planners, and urbanists read GRID — the free briefing that covers what actually gets built, torn down, or rethought.
One story. One building. One city. Five mornings a week — delivered free to your inbox before you open a drawing.
By subscribing you agree to receive GRID and occasional service updates from Grid Media, Inc. Unsubscribe anytime — one click, no questions. All policies published in full below on this page. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
A new 44-storey residential block in Vienna intentionally exceeds the city's height limit by six metres. Its architects and the municipality planned it that way — and the reasons why reveal a fundamental shift in how European cities are rewriting the rules of densification.
One completed or in-progress building, infrastructure project, or urban intervention — reported with full context: who commissioned it, who built it, what it cost, and what it says about where architecture is going.
The planning decision, zoning code, or municipal policy behind the week's most significant built-environment news — because no building exists outside the political and regulatory systems that shape it.
A comparable project from architectural history — selected to show that today's most urgent design problems have roots, and sometimes solutions, in the past.
One statistic about cities, housing, construction, or the built environment — with full source, context, and what it actually means for practitioners and citizens.
